A full week in Washington D.C. has come to an end. Here is the week's summary by Sami.
We landed in Washington D.C. Monday afternoon, where we then headed to our hotel (Omni Shoreham hotel). We explored around, ate some amazing food, and called it a day. Tuesday we did some more exploring, shopping, and eventually checked into our new hotel room where we got to meet our roommates and soon to be lifetime friends.
We spent most of Tuesday getting to know other people while also completing sessions. We got divided into 14 groups of 25 kids in each group, we all had unique names for our groups, mine was called The Justice League.
Wednesday was definitely the best day, because we got to go on a city night tour. We took a bunch of buses and got to walk around some very important memorials like: the Lincoln Memorial, Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Wall, Vietnam Women's War Memorial, Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, World War ll Memorial, Washington Monument, Korean War Memorial, and Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial.
Thursday we went to Capitol Hill, this is where we went and took a tour of the Capitol which was absolutely gorgeous inside. The architecture was very detailed and colorful. The statues and the smallest details in the Capitol all had important meaning to it.
Friday, we went to the Arlington Cemetery, we saw the changing of the guards. These guards were guarding the tomb of the unknown soldier, this was an amazing experiences to witness. It was nice to see that all those graves and tombs were shown so much respect at the Arlington Cemetery both by people passing and the guards. After we got back from the Arlington Cemetery we got a few minutes to rest and then we attended some more sessions, did a reflection of the day and called it a day.
Saturday, we went to the Smithsonian Institution where we got to see the museum of natural history and American history. The Smithsonian institution consisted of many different museums types of museums that you could go and explore. After we spent some time at the museum we then got free time in the city where you could go and explore the city freely with your advisor. We walked around for a while where we got to see Dwight Eisenhower's Executive Office Building, the front of the White House, we took some pictures and then rode back to the hotel on the metro. We rested for a bit then celebrated the ending of our time here in Washington D.C. Here in Washington D.C. there is so much greenery that is was surprising to see it all around us everywhere we went, also the places that we went to were absolutely amazing.

Over the last few days in Washington D.C., Sami has continued her leadership development through workshops on collaborative group discussions, advocacy, and taking action. She also got a tour of the Capitol and Arlington Cemetery.

First full day of the Washington Leadership Conference is completed! Sami completed leadership workshops over communities, being a change maker in a community, and understanding leadership styles. She also got to experience a night tour of some of the famous Washington DC Memorials. These included Abraham Lincoln, Washington, World War 2, Korean War, Vietnam War, Franklin Roosevelt and Martin Luther King JR.
